TELOK AYER AND Amoy Street are now synonymous with happening bars and restaurants such as Employees Only, Park Bench Deli and Bochinche. But back in the day, Telok Ayer Street was where Chinese immigrants who came to Singapore by boat landed. It was also the site of Singapore's first major reclamation project in the 1880s.
This weekend, leave your car at home and explore one of Singapore's oldest districts. As part of Car-Free Weekend, digital publisher Our Grandfather Story is hosting Our Telok Ayer Stories, a weekend of fun activities that takes visitors back in time, while celebrating local culture.
Car-Free Weekend is an extension of Car-Free Sunday, an initiative by the Urban Redevelopment Authority to go car-lite.
