HORROR films can scare the bejesus out of its audience in a cinema but on set, there is nothing to be frightened of, claims local filmmaker Kelvin Tong.
"There are usually so many lights and people around that I think (the spirits) go on a holiday when we're shooting because it's too crowded," jests the ex-journalist who made his name with supernatural flicks like The Maid (2005), 1942 (2005), and Rule No. 1 (2008).
His latest, The Faith of Anna Waters, has been billed as Singapore's first Hollywood horror film and is screening islandwide now, as well as in America. It stars Matthew Settle and Elizabeth Rice of Gossip Girl and Mad Men fame respectively, as well as local actors including Adrian Pang and Jaymee Ong.
