WITH Christmas and New Year barely out of our system, it’s time to gear up for the next festive season, namely, the Chinese New Year. It’s a time when thoughts turn to reunions, lohei and how to maximise your winnings at the next friendly mahjong or poker session. In the next issue of BTLuxe, we welcome the Year of the Dragon in style with an issue devoted to all things heritage-related, and a shout-out to Valentine’s Day, which falls within the Chinese New Year period too.

We kick off with our star personality, Desmond Tan, a Singapore boy now sought after as the most popular actor in town. The self-confessed heartlander talks about growing up in Redhill and memories of Chinese New Years past, becoming a successful star and impending fatherhood. We also speak with Kara Arissa Tan, a second-generation chief executive tasked with bringing her family’s traditional bird’s nest company into the future. In addition, Hong Kong lifestyle entrepreneur Kevin Poon talks about his creative ventures and how the traditions and values of Chinese New Year still hold a place in his heart.

Meanwhile, take off to Bhutan, a kingdom built around history and heritage, and South Korea, where culinary traditions still hold true today. In Design, see how a modern Chinese family designed their new home in a contemporary aesthetic while sticking to their traditional roots. And of course, what’s Chinese New Year without dressing up, whether it’s your home or revamping your wardrobe. Check out some ideas to give your abode a modern oriental accent, and make a statement with the latest fashion trends. And if you’re in the market for Valentine’s Day gifts, we have his and her watches to suit every taste.

Celebrate Chinese New Year in advance with BTLuxe, our luxury publication that comes free with your copy of The Business Times this Friday.
