SET IN THE NEAR THOUGH UNSPECIFIED FUTURE, Spike Jonze's 2013 sci-fi rom-com Her revolved around an introvert played by Joaquin Phoenix falling in love with his computer, voiced by Scarlett Johansson.

That scenario is no longer a fantasy with two devices, Google Home and Google Home Mini, launched in Singapore last month. Just saying.

Essentially voice-activated speakers powered by Google Assistant - the tech giant's artificial intelligence-powered virtual assistant software works like iPhone's Siri - both devices offer functions that are also similar to other smart speakers like the Apple HomePod and Amazon Echo.
