As one of the world's most recognised premium luxury brands, Bottega Veneta has upheld its philosophy of discreet luxury and craftsmanship since its conception in Vicenza, Italy in 1966. The company's famous motto, "When your own initials are enough", is a symbol of individuality and confidence -something that resonates very strongly with its creative director of 17 years, Tomas Maier. Reiterating the brand's philosophy, Maier says, "Luxury is a point of view that is more about what you hide than what you show. It is relentless pursuit of excellence and quality for its own sake and your own pleasure: Not to show-off." In a logo-obsessed society fuelled by conspicuous consumption, a mindset such as Maier's is a rarity.
This spring season, Maier hones the brand's appeal of quiet luxury with a brand new personalisation programme seen at its Spring/Summer 2018 runway show. Tote and duffle striped bags for men in canvas, suede and ostrich patterns are designed to include monogrammed initials for two new women's bags - the Intrecciato Palio (a vivid tri-color design crafted from eight different types of Nappa leather) and the BV73 (a bag based on an original model from 1973). Says Maier of this service, "My client has his own tastes. And now he can have a bag that nobody else has."
Fans of the brand's iconic intrecciato pattern (a unique leather weaving technique synonymous with the house) can also enjoy this personalisation. For women, the selection includes the Veneta hobo, Olimpia shoulder bag and Cesta tote, along with wallets, zip pouches and phone cases. Men can choose from backpacks, business bags, dossiers, and travel essentials as well as a range of wallets and small leather goods.
The pleasure of owning a personalised bag is now easily within reach as all three Bottega Veneta boutiques across Singapore offer this service in dedicated corners within each one. You only need to wait a day for embossing and stamping, which are both complimentary. For something more intricate, stitching is another option. This has a minimum three month turnaround period as this service can only be executed by Bottega Veneta artisans in their customisation atelier in Montebello Vicentino. It is not a complimentary service (charges apply per letter) and customers can choose from crocodile or Carrara calf leather in seasonal colors.
High-end brands are now more than ever addressing the demand for personalisation services. Letting their customers have some say over their top-dollar purchases enhances their relationship with the brand, which is crucial in this highly competitive luxury arena.
