Watchmakers and artists
A new film series by The Hour Glass celebrates human creativity and perseverance in the face of adversity
LUXURY WATCH RETAILER The Hour Glass has launched an online film series on some of the most exciting names in horology, including Maximilian Büsser of MB&F, Rexhep Rexhepi of Akrivia, Roger W Smith and his eponymous brand, and Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei of Urwerk. Starting late April, The Hour Glass is releasing a new short film every week for two months to mark the occasion of its 40th anniversary.
The series titled The Lives Of Artists doesn't just focus on watchmakers - there are also episodes on British architect David Adjaye, Dutch designer Wieki Somers, Japanese designer Oki Sato, American visual artist Daniel Arsham and Australian industrial designer Marc Newson.
According to Michael Tay, the group managing director, the series deliberately ventured outside of the watch world so as to "begin a conversation on how watches and its makers intrinsically belong to the cultural milieu of contemporary art and design, providing a new narrative for watchmaking."
