One of Thailand's most famous artists, Natee Utarit executes paintings in the style of classical European art but infuses them with a strong critique of capitalism and its impact on Thai society and traditions.

His solo exhibition Optimism is Ridiculous: The Altarpieces has travelled to Manila's Ayala Museum in February 2017 and National Gallery of Indonesia in October 2017 where it garnered acclaim. It is now making its third stop at The Private Museum Singapore with seven large and ambitious works.

Once again, Natee presents gorgeous Western visual allegories on canvases elaborately framed. But the images subvert their very traditions, suggesting a rejection of Western values and a return to Buddhist traditions of virtuous restraint and simplicity.
