OVER 3,000 people have registered for Santa Race for Wishes 2022, an annual community event organised by Make-A-Wish Singapore to raise funds for wish children – children with critical illnesses.
The event kicked off last Saturday (Nov 26) at D’Marquee Downtown East, where the charity also celebrated its 20th anniversary. Around 500 wish children and families attended, as well as corporate partners and volunteers.
Guest of honour Sharael Taha, grassroots adviser for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC, encouraged more individuals and corporate partners to participate and support the cause.
In the month-long festive event, participants can choose to run, walk or cycle individually or as a group to accumulate 40,075 km collectively. There is also a leaderboard with prizes and an adventure game where participants can explore Gardens by the Bay.
Make-A-Wish Singapore said it needs to raise S$500,000 more to continue granting wishes for wish children.
Anastasia Ling, vice-chairperson, Make-A-Wish Singapore board of directors said: “In 2023, we look forward to doing more with our wish alumni and have lined-up a series of activities to engage and support them”.
The funds will go towards activities that improve the social and emotional well-being of wish children, such as tickets to Sentosa attractions, travel packs and room makeovers.
The virtual edition of Santa Race will also take place from Nov 26 to Dec 26. It remains virtual to allow more people to participate. Registration is free and donations are accepted.
Santa Race is sponsored by NTUC FairPrice Foundation and supported by Allianz, SAP, and Tate and Lyle.
