Businessman Jeffrey Goh was crowned the BMW Golf Cup National Final champion at Sentosa Golf Club’s Serapong course last Thursday (Oct 6).

“It was a surprise win for I had only one birdie,” said the 47-year-old, an 8.5-handicap index golfer who is a member of Warren Golf and Country Club and National Service Resort and Country Club.

Goh, who birdied the 152-metre par-three 17th hole, edged out Nicholas Goh on countback after both golfers amassed 37 points in Category 1 (handicap 0 to 12) on the System 36 stableford format on a wet day at Sentosa.

Jeffrey Goh’s prize will be the chance to compete against winners from 50 other countries at the next BMW Golf Cup International World Final to be held in Mauritius in March 2023.

Also set to make the trip is his buggy mate Allen Gong, who won the B category (handicap 13 to 24) also on countback from Jaron Sim, after both players recorded 37 points.

Joining the duo will be national women’s golfer Aloysa Atienza, this year’s SEA Games silver medallist who was a clear winner In the Ladies’ category (handicap 1 to 36).

Atienza chalked up an impressive 41 points, five ahead of Intarasoot Potjanart (36 points) in the annual event which made its global debut in 1987 and the series started in Singapore in 2006.

Atienza, 24, who recently graduated as a civil engineer from the National University of Singapore, is a strong plus-3 handicapper.

Arnt Bayer, managing director of Performance Motors Limited, said: “Golf has always been an opportunity to connect with the BMW community and strengthen relationships with our customers.”
