Tiger Brokers Charity Cup raises S$300,000 for non-profit FootballPlus
The funds raised will give FootballPlus’ beneficiaries access to coaching, mentorship and life-skills training
[SINGAPORE] Finance broker Tiger Brokers has raised around S$300,000 from its inaugural charity football tournament for local non-profit body FootballPlus, which mentors disadvantaged children and youth in football.
On Saturday (Dec 6), around 180 players, forming 12 corporate teams, took part in GameChanger 2025: Tiger Brokers Charity Cup, from which digital marketing agency CPXI Asia emerged the winner.
For this event, Tiger Brokers and the Tote Board made a dollar-for-dollar match for every dollar donated by sponsors.
The funds raised will go towards giving FootballPlus’ beneficiaries access to structured coaching, mentorship and life-skills training. The non-profit will also be able to scale and enhance its one-year Champions Unlimited Programme.
This was the first time Tiger Brokers has partnered is a sports-focused non-profit for its corporate social responsibility efforts.
Ian Leong, chief executive of Tiger Brokers Singapore, said: “In FootballPlus, we found a like-minded partner that believes deeply in using sport as a platform for purpose-driven change. Its holistic, values-based approach to mentoring young people goes far beyond the game, and equips these children with life skills, confidence and direction for the future.”
Loh Ngiap Tai, managing director of FootballPlus, added: “This partnership gives us both the resources and momentum to deepen our programme delivery, strengthen family and community outreach, and ultimately help more young people discover confidence, purpose and possibility through football.
“Through our strengthened Champions Unlimited Programme, young participants (can receive) ... one-to-one mentoring, academic support ... career discovery opportunities and even overseas training exposure.”
He added that FootballPlus’ beneficiaries typically face limited access to quality extracurricular activities, academic support, mentorship and basic resources – challenges that are “often compounded by social and economic pressures at home, making consistent guidance and support critical”.
Former national football player S Subramani, who played in the exhibition match at the start of the tournament, said: “Football gave me opportunities, discipline and belief ... By being on the field... I hope (the children) see that their background does not define their future.”
Tiger Brokers’ Leong said the partnership between the brokerage firm and FootballPlus will be sustained and involve hands-on engagement.
“We also see strong opportunities for our employees to stay connected through continued volunteering, mentorship and community visits, enabling our team to build meaningful relationships with the children and witness their progress first-hand,” he said.
Tiger Brokers’ Charity Cup is part of FootballPlus’ GameChanger initiative, through which the non-profit aims to host football tournaments with partners to raise funds.
