Tiki time
Tiny, friendly Taki Taki's latest menu takes inspiration from the region and celebrates the cuisine of migrant communities in Singapore

WHAT defines a tiki bar, that retro example of tropical-flavoured Americana? Is it the Pacific Islands-inspired kitschy decor? A menu of flamboyant rum-based cocktails?
Neither, says KC Rahmat, one of the three co-founders of tiki bar Taki Taki: "At the end of the day, it's all about the hospitality, for us. That's what a tiki bar is all about."
'Taki taki' is Fijian for 'bottoms up', and that celebratory spirit is in ample supply at the tiny, friendly bar. The staff make it a point to remember names, and on a Friday night, you might find them dancing with customers. Mr Rahmat explains: "We try to make sure you have a good night."
