    IT IS widely acknowledged that promising Singapore athletes experience leaps in performance after a coaching, training or competition stint in the United States.

    The trend began in the late-1970s with a tripartite agreement involving the then-Singapore Sports Council, the respective national sports associations, and the athletes' parents to co-fund such a programme.
