    All things Teochew

DIALECTS might be uncool in the eyes of Speak Mandarin campaign advocates, but Teochews here are declaring their identity with an 11-day festival showcasing their rich, colourful - and tasty - heritage.

Organised by the Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan in conjunction with its 85th anniversary, the first Singapore Teochew Festival, which started yesterday and runs until Oct 5 at the Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza, features an arts, culture and food fair, the first event of its kind by a dialect group to be held on this scale.
