Unscripted and left to chance
PLAYWRIGHT Irfan Kasban is done with writing scripts. At least for now.
So for his upcoming production (which has an ironically wordy title) A Beautiful Chance Encounter of a Sewing Machine and an Umbrella on an Operating Table, he decided to stage it almost entirely without text.
It's mostly a reaction to what some reviewers said about a play he staged last year, said the 26-year-old. There was a scene where a man was covering himself in talcum powder, and it irked him that they described it as "indulgent" because that wasn't his intention.
