FAMILY dramas, when mishandled, can be a mess of clichés - just watch any episode of TV's Growing Up!
There are exceptions, of course, and Wes Anderson comes to mind as someone who dabbles in the genre time and again with plenty of originality and creativity.
Similarly, Malaysian filmmaker Saw Teong Hin makes an impression with his semi-autobiographical You Mean the World to Me.
