IN the Lady 8 Flower, the brand known by its twin stars brings to life a blossoming lotus flower. A product of all Jaquet Droz's arts and crafts skills, The Lady 8 Flower is made up of two superimposed circles creating a figure of eight, an emblematic number for the brand and a symbol of harmony, perfection and infinity. A delicate butterfly with wings outspread rests in the lower circle. There are two versions.
In one, the butterfly's wings are painted and engraved in translucent red enamel against a guilloche background; in the other, the butterfly is set with blue sapphires on snow-set diamonds.
A lotus flower lies beneath a sapphire crystal dome in the upper circle. Each of its petals is individually enamelled or engraved to give its back a perfect satin finish. The lotus flower opens at the press of a push-button, revealing a diamond heart. In creating the Lady 8 Flower, Jaquet Droz had to accommodate two mechanisms, the watch's and the automaton's, within a 35mm case, while ensuring that one never interferes with the other.
