Life in pictures
A new exhibition traces the history of Asian photography
IF A picture tells a thousand words, imagine a photo exhibition showcasing over 5,000 images by top local and regional shutterbugs. That’s the scope of Living Pictures by National Gallery Singapore, a multi-gallery exhibition which traces the history of photography in Singapore and South-east Asia, from the black-and-white studio photos of the colonial era to the proliferation of images on social media today. In tomorrow’s issue of BTLifestyle, get insight into this seminal exhibition that took five years to curate. Among the top photographer names are neglected ones such as 82-year-old SIngaporean Tan Lip Seng, who in his heyday won over 1,000 awards and citations in international salons.
In Design, we head to the maisonette apartment of a minimalist couple, whose love for empty spaces is creatively interpreted to be both austere yet completely liveable. In Watches, we pick the best timepieces of 2022, in a year watch brands outdid themselves with the most technologically advanced and well-designed creations. And in Dining, get a taste of Indian cooking at Shikar, which offers a modern outlook without straying from the traditional. Read all this and more in tomorrow’s BT.
