The Portugieser ushers in IWC's new movements

IWC Schaffhausen CEO Georges Kern says that the most popular collection in the brand's watch family, the Portugieser, is also the symbol of its expertise as a manufacturer of movements. So it's not surprising that the Portugieser is picked to launch the first of IWC's three new movements this year, which also happens to be the Portugieser's 75th anniversary.
The 52000 calibre, which will be followed by the 69000 and 42000 in the years to come, sets new standards in design and polishing. It boasts two barrels to supply enough energy for a seven-day power reserve and drive complications such as IWC's new annual calendar and perpetual calendar.
Various parts of the movement are made of ceramic which makes time-keeping more accurate.
