The new 'protein' diet

Published Wed, Apr 28, 2021 · 09:50 PM

PORK chops made out of jackfruit. Fried rice topped with a sunny side up "egg" made of legumes. Cultured chicken nuggets. Pea protein paneer "cheese". Do you know what you're going to eat next?

As the momentum continues for the alternative protein industry and more players race to find new plant-based products to replace a good old fashioned steak, more consumers are seeing their food choices being influenced by climate change. In tomorrow's BTLifestyle, we look at the phenomenon of plant-based "mock" meats and how Singapore is the epicentre of the movement, with many players setting up operations here. We also look at how chefs and restaurants are warming to such products and introducing them into their menus.

Elsewhere, we check out a new exhibition that celebrates the work of six overlooked artists who are finally getting the recognition they deserve. And for watch lovers, the mega Watches & Wonders continues to roll out new timepieces to tempt you. And if you're hungry for some real food, we travel to Fukui, or rather, a Japanese restaurant by the same name.
