PATEK PHILIPPE IS ONE OF the few key brands at industry trade fair Watches & Wonders that watch enthusiasts and industry insiders eagerly anticipate.

The independent watchmaker has, with its updates over the years, continuously built on its expertise and rich heritage, as it focuses on developing and refining its signature collections.

This year is no different. Elegant luxury remains the name of its game. There are new timepieces that have been introduced in rose gold, presenting elevated takes on some of the watchmaker’s most iconic models, including the Golden Ellipse, Aquanaut and Twenty~4.

Golden Ellipse debuts first chain-style bracelet

A style icon of the late 1960s and 70s, the instantly recognisable Golden Ellipse is one of Patek Philippe’s most distinctive models then and remains so today.

First launched in 1968 with a yellow gold case, it stands out for its unusual shape, which is inspired by the famous “golden ratio”, a principle of harmonious aesthetic proportions that has been applied to many historical architectural and artistic works.

Since then, it has been released in various shades of gold and dial colours and fitted with different styles of straps and bracelets.

This year marks a first for Patek Philippe as it offers the Golden Ellipse with a chain-style bracelet – one that has a patented construction made up of 363 links that are mounted by hand.

The new model, the Ref 5738/1R-001, has a rose gold case, beautifully contrasted with a sunburst ebony dial and a crown topped with a cabochon-cut onyx.

Underneath its elegant exterior is the self-winding 240 calibre, an ultra-thin movement that gives the case a super-slim 5.99mm profile, making it the thinnest watch in Patek Philippe’s current collection.

Aquanaut Travel Time: A modern take on a classic icon

Many would remember the Ref 5269/200R-001 Aquanaut Travel Time from 2021 – it is a rose gold version of the icon with a gem-set bezel paired with a white dial and strap.

But this year, Patek Philippe releases the new Ref 5269R Aquanaut Travel Time, a non-gem-set and grey-hued version of the 2021 variant.

Armed with a blue-grey composite strap that sports the same iconic Aquanaut motif on the dial, the new Ref 5269R Aquanaut Travel Time is suitable for both men and women. PHOTO: PATEK PHILIPPE

Grey hues and rose gold always make for an attractive colour combination and with the Ref 5269R, the contrast also provides gender-neutral appeal, a quality enhanced by the 38.8mm-diameter case.

The dial is embossed with the signature Aquanaut motif, which extends across the integrated blue-grey composite strap.

These sporty elements are perfectly matched with the rose gold case and clasp and come together to produce a refined yet casual-chic aesthetic.

The watch is equipped with the quartz E 23-250 S FUS 24H calibre and features a patented Travel Time system that can display the time in another time zone.

For this reason, there are two central hour hands from which the time in different zones can be read – a skeletonised one for home time and the other for local time, while adjustments can be easily made via the crown.

Marking 25 years of the Twenty~4

The Twenty~4 encapsulates feminine grace and elegance. On the 25th anniversary of this icon this year, Patek Philippe has launched a new cuff-style model, a design that the collection was built solely on until the round-shaped version was introduced in 2018.

This latest rose-gold interpretation, the Ref 4910/1201R, features a lacquered dial in a rich hue of purple – a handworked creation that requires considerable time and effort.

The dial plate is first embossed with a concentric wave pattern, then coated with multiple successive layers of translucent purple lacquer, followed by transparent, clear lacquer.

When polished, these layers of lacquer create the beautiful depth effect that adds another alluring dimension to the dial.

For discreet sparkle, a single row of diamonds is added to the case on either side of the dial. The crown and clasp also feature ornamentation in the form of the engraved emblem of Patek Philippe’s Calatrava cross.

The watch is powered by the quartz E15 calibre and fitted with a curved, polished bracelet designed for wearing comfort.

Observing the new rose-gold variants, it is evident that Patek Philippe has upheld its commitment to the consistent quality and elegance that define its reputation.

And as a watchmaker reputed for its heritage, exclusivity and meticulous craftsmanship, it works only with partners who share its values and fervour for horology.

This is why it has partnered with retailers like The Hour Glass, a name as committed to upholding and advancing watch culture as Patek Philippe is.

Together, they have brought collectors here into the exceptional world of Patek Philippe’s watchmaking and will continue to do so with these new releases and future creations.
