Rolex Oyster Perpetual Land-Dweller delivers groundbreaking precision in style
The new model is defined by its seamlessly integrated Flat Jubilee bracelet, a revolutionary movement and no fewer than 18 exclusive patents, all housed in a redesigned Oyster case with a rare sapphire display back
ROLEX writes a new chapter in its history with the launch of the Oyster Perpetual Land-Dweller. This contemporary timepiece represents the full scope of the company’s skill set, derived from over a century of accumulated fine watchmaking expertise.
Defined by its distinct visual appeal and pioneering mechanics, the watch is created for ambitious men and women who actively shape their surroundings. Its core philosophy is unambiguous: Achieve complete alignment with your present circumstances to influence future outcomes.
The Land-Dweller is produced in two dimensions: 36 mm and 40 mm. Its high performance is protected by no fewer than 32 total patents or applications, 18 of which relate exclusively to this model.
A key focus is the Land-Dweller’s sophisticated approach to the fixed metal bracelet concept. It introduces the Flat Jubilee strap, a metal band that achieves remarkable continuity with the specially modified Oyster case.
This design is a modern tribute to the original Jubilee bracelet launched in 1945. While retaining the classic five-link configuration, all parts of the new strap are rendered flat.
The polished, angled edges of the outer links precisely align with the bevels on the middle case, creating a continuous stream of light along the wrist. The complex attachment mechanism necessary for this seamless integration is the subject of a patent application.

Adding a layer of structural endurance, versions crafted from 18-carat Everose gold and 950 platinum incorporate patented ceramic tubes within the links, a pioneering feature designed to shield the spring bar from wear.
The watch housing itself is a specially developed Oyster case. Its curved sides are polished and chamfered, and the structure is water-tight to 100 m. Unusually for an Oyster Perpetual, it is fitted with a sapphire case-back, allowing a clear view of the mechanism within.
The surrounding fluted bezel has been updated with wider grooves compared to standard Classic models, giving it a more contemporary appearance, while a diamond-set alternative is available on precious metal versions.
The Land-Dweller’s face presents a detailed honeycomb texture where stylised, subtly raised cells create a visually engaging pattern. This intricate surface is achieved through proprietary techniques, including precise cutting with a femtosecond laser.
The display features include the 6 and 9 numerals, which are distinctive because of their open structure in the middle and inspired by those of the Explorer and Air-King models. A newly formulated, tougher luminous compound is applied to the perfectly straight hands and markers, ensuring superior low-light performance.
Technical sophistication
Powering the Land-Dweller is the Calibre 7135, a mechanical, self-winding mechanism engineered entirely by Rolex. This movement, which is notably slimmer than many of the brand’s calibres, delivers outstanding functionality.
Its defining technical attribute is its capacity to oscillate at a high rate of 5 Hertz – or 36,000 vibrations every hour – which allows for time measurement accurate to one tenth of a second. The efficient mechanism provides a power reserve of approximately 66 hours.
The movement benefits from the highly efficient, silicon-made Dynapulse escapement, which transmits energy by rolling contact between its components, drastically reducing consumption compared to traditional sliding escapements. The oscillator assembly employs a balance staff manufactured from a patented, high-tech ceramic material, exclusive to the brand.
Three core versions of the Land-Dweller are currently available. The first is the Land-Dweller 40 in a white Rolesor version (combining Oystersteel and white gold), which features a fluted bezel and an intense white dial with the honeycomb motif.
Also available is the smaller Land-Dweller 36, fashioned in luxurious 18-carat Everose gold. This model features a dial identical in motif to the Rolesor version, but it is set with 10 baguette-cut diamond hour markers and is surrounded by a bezel glittering with 44 trapeze-cut diamonds.
Last but not least is another Land-Dweller 40, crafted from 950 platinum. This watch includes a fluted bezel and is distinguished by its ice blue dial, a hue strictly reserved by Rolex for timepieces constructed from this prestigious metal.
Like all Rolex watches, both the Land-Dweller 36 and 40 are covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification. This rigorous in-house testing mandates an accuracy rate of ±2 seconds per day for the final, assembled watch.
