IF LOVE IS AN ADVENTURE, Tudor tool watches are the perfect gift for Valentine’s Day. For modern couples who find romance in the outdoors while bonding with nature, especially the sea, the Tudor Pelagos line offers one of the most comprehensive collections of traditional mechanical diving watches on the market.

Here are just three that will get your heart pumping in more ways than one:

    Pelagos

Like all watches in the collection, the Pelagos has been updated since 2015 with a Tudor-made movement endorsed by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute for superior performance.

The dial is ensconced in a 42 mm wide titanium and steel case with satin finish. It was originally matte black, like its bezel and rubber strap. But it is now also available in matt blue, the colour of Tudor’s divers’ watches from the 1960s onwards. Blue is also the colour choice of the French Navy for the Tudor Submariners used by its divers.

The Pelagos is guaranteed to be waterproof to 500 metres, living up to its heritage in underwater work – especially the work by major navies. A helium escape valve attached to the watch protects it from too much water pressure.

The watch is as legible deep under water as above, because the hour markers are big and, together with the hands and bezel, are heavily coated with luminescence. Its extra-light and anti-corrosive titanium bracelet is easily adjustable, and it can also be worn with a rubber strap.

    Price: S$7,040

    Pelagos FXD

The Pelagos FXD is the “spiritual heir” of Tudor’s early diving watches used by the US Navy, from the mid-1950s to late 1980s. The watch got its name from the robust “FiXed” strap bars which are machined directly onto its case. The bars were a US military specification but their design took after those of other generations of Tudor diving watches.

Waterproof to 200 metres, the Pelagos FXD is a modern, high-performance and robust take on the famed “Milsub” – short for Military Submariner – of bygone days. Specifically, it recalls a late 1960s Tudor Oyster Prince Submariner reference 7016.

The watch’s 42 mm titanium case has a unidirectional rotating bezel with a ceramic insert. The case frames a black dial which features square hour markers and angular hands known as “Snowflake”. The latter was introduced in 1969 to enhance the luminosity of Tudor timepieces.

The Pelagos FXD comes with two straps, a nod to the military custom of wearing watches on straps rather than bracelets. The main strap comes in a one-piece green fabric with a red central thread and self-gripping fastening system. The other strap is a single rubber piece with a black embossed fabric-motif.  Price: S$5,850

    Pelagos 39

Equally at ease in the city as at sea, the Pelagos 39 comfortably straddles the ruggedness of technical diving and sophistication of urban living. It flaunts a versatile 39 mm titanium case, while the hour markers are carved from ceramic composite mono bloc and filled with luminescence. The unidirectional rotating bezel is made of titanium and has a black ceramic insert with a sunray satin finish. The graduated scale on the bezel insert is made of white luminous material.

Waterproof to 200 metres, the Pelagos 39 is paired with a fully satin-brushed titanium bracelet that can be lengthened easily if required. It may also be worn with a black rubber strap which can be extended by up to 110 mm. Price: S$6,590
