Krystal Choo believes that for someone to be an entrepreneur, they need to be at least slightly delusional. Like her. "When society tells me no, you can't - you're too young, you're a girl; Singapore is too small; I have to be like no, I can," she says.
This spunky 29-year-old attributes her can-do approach to her childhood. Growing up in a lower-middle income family, Ms Choo's main form of entertainment came from the books that her mother picked up from charities or churches. She would devour them regardless of topic - fiction and non-fiction. That wide reading exposure, and her active imagination, soon spawned ideas she would turn into businesses when she grew up.
Even when they failed, she would just pick herself up and try again. Currently, she runs Wander - an app that started as a way for singles to find travel buddies, but recently pivoted to become a social group messaging app for users to share common interests. Though it is only set to launch in January, Ms Choo has already earned a name for herself as one of Singapore's most prominent tech entrepreneurs.
