LOOKING GLASS
Looks are deceiving when it comes to Japanese design firm Critiba's Shallows vases. They look like ordinary glass but are made of full crystal glass with a small hole in the centre to hold a flower and water. When the vase is completely filled, the surface tension of the water creates a gentle curve along the side, giving the illusion that the glass and water are one. Shallows comes in three sizes, and is priced from S$145. From now till May 15, with every sale of a Shallow vase, design firm IndustryPlus, which commissioned Critiba, will donate 10 per cent of the proceeds to the Sayang Sayang Fund, a community impact fund by The Community Foundation of Singapore to care for the vulnerable in times of national crises such as the Covid-19 outbreak. ~ Tay Suan Chiang
