Whipsawed by the ghosts of our past

LAST year, The Necessary Stage fused dance, drama, music, literature and multimedia in the kaleidoscopic play, Gitanjali (I Feel The Earth Move). Buoyed by its success, TNS resident playwright Haresh Sharma once again uses a fusion of arts to tell a story.

"I love the freedom of telling stories ... and fascinated with how theatre can embrace other art forms like literature, multimedia and film," he shares.

The push and pull of past and future was a key theme in Gitanjali, and it's the same with Ghost Writer - directed by TNS founder Alvin Tan. This time, it follows different characters haunted by their past despite trying to move in new directions. A young artist struggles with the rigidity of her classical training. An expatriate escapes from reality and reimagines it through fiction. A teacher is suddenly alone in the fight to preserve her legacy.
