LAUNCHED 16 years ago with pomp and fanfare, Iskandar Malaysia - the country's growth corridor at its southern tip - was once seen as one of the world's most ambitious development projects, perhaps even becoming a mini Shenzhen in South-east Asia.

It certainly wooed many a Singaporean to invest in property there, drawn by the prospect of an idyllic sprawling home in an economic zone just a drive across the Causeway.
