Women in sustainability
WITH International Women’s Day being celebrated on Mar 8, BT Lifestyle puts the spotlight on women who have made sustainability a big part of their lives. First, we speak to Chudaree “Tam” Debhakam, who is not only the first Thai female chef to earn two Michelin stars for her restaurant Baan Tepa, but also someone who has made sustainability her life’s mission as she champions local ingredients and pursues a no-waste policy.
We also talk to Agatha Lee, who left her career at the National Environment Agency to become a sustainable textile artist, creating artworks from discarded textiles; and Yuko Tsukada, a former creative director of Bloomberg Media Studios for Asia-Pacific and Japan, who gave up her 30-year stint at the media company to start her own brand of sustainable jewellery.
In Arts, we visit six exhibitions that focus on female artists, and the distinct contributions they have made to the international art world.
Meanwhile, in Design, Japanophiles will be inspired by a penthouse that is a reflection of the homeowners’ interests in Japanese arts and culture.
And if you’re peckish, head to Magpie, the newest eatery to open in the gentrified neighbourhood of Tiong Bahru. For this and other good reads, don’t miss this week’s edition of BT Lifestyle.
