From 3G Sunset to 6G Dawn

Singapore’s connectivity strategy is rewriting the rules for the future

SINGAPORE’S ongoing 3G shutdown isn’t just an infrastructure upgrade; it’s a strategic step towards redefining digital connectivity and positioning the nation as a global leader in next-generation technologies. As legacy networks are phased out to make way for 5G and, ultimately, 6G, Singapore is not only embracing faster speeds but actively building the foundation for a hyper-connected society that will shape the future of industries, services and urban life.

Singapore’s latest Digital Connectivity Blueprint highlights this vision, focusing on enhancing international connectivity, establishing ultra-high domestic speeds, and supporting Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite services. The evolution from 3G to 6G underscores the country’s commitment to transforming connectivity from a utility into a dynamic ecosystem capable of powering innovation across industries and redefining urban living.

    3G to 6G: A strategic connectivity evolution

Singapore’s proactive phase-out of 3G goes beyond making room for 5G. It’s about building a transformative network infrastructure that will position Singapore as a leader in artificial intelligence (AI), automation and Internet of Things (IoT) on the global stage. This shift is in line with the goals of the Digital Connectivity Blueprint, which aims to enhance international connections and achieve seamless, end-to-end domestic connectivity with speeds of up to 10 Gbps. Additionally, Singapore’s investment in LEO satellite technology will ensure robust, high-speed links for even the most remote locations, enabling Singapore to serve as a digital hub for South-east Asia and beyond.
