Advancing disability inclusion ahead of the Workplace Fairness Bill
THE recent passing of the Workplace Fairness Bill gives workers greater protection from discrimination on factors such as age, marital status, disability and mental health. While it takes effect in 2026 or 2027, companies can take action now and tap persons with disabilities as a viable talent pool.
Over the years, the employment rate of people with disabilities has improved steadily, as employers increasingly realise the benefits of inclusive hiring.
Persons with disabilities have unique talents, and can make excellent contributions when employers focus on their abilities and match them to the right job, as a 2022 Heidrick & Struggles study on the benefits of disability-inclusive hiring found.
