Asia has nothing to fear from a Trump administration

FOR more than one year, I strongly supported the candidacy of Donald Trump. I served as a media surrogate and an informal adviser to the campaign from its earliest days. I endured substantial criticism from my personal network of associates, clients and even friends for doing so. Now Mr Trump is the President-elect of the United States.

The implications for Asia are significant but the future is brighter and more positive than many Asians think. There is nothing for Singapore or Asia to fear from a Trump administration, because President-elect Trump has a perspective that sees opportunities for new partnerships and a new level of trust in relationships with countries in Asia.

His victory is a signal that America has entered a new era. The mandate issued by the American people to the political elite of Washington, DC was loud and clear; the ruling establishment as well as the media and political pundits are in a state of shock.
