SOME friends of mine thought it would be very funny to set up a Tinder account on my phone some years ago – believing, I suppose, that anyone who saw my profile would presume I was an ageing Lothario on the prowl for another illicit hook-up.

As it happened, that Tinder account (after I cleaned it up) and other dating apps that I have used since then have been a very effective means of meeting women whose paths I would otherwise not have crossed.

I’m still single, though. So, I cannot personally claim these apps are a sure-fire way of finding “the one”.
