IMAGINE an American president who has succeeded in rallying the international community against a global aggressor, who has announced the nomination of the first African-American woman to the US Supreme Court, whose public health advisors are predicting the beginning of the end of a deadly pandemic, and who presided over a robust economic recovery under which the unemployment rate is falling and new jobs are being created.
Well, with all these achievements at home and abroad, you would assume that this White House occupant would be enjoying wide public support and that his opinion poll numbers would be rising to the stratosphere.
But as he prepares to deliver his State of the Union (SOTU) address on Tuesday (9am on Wednesday, Singapore time), there are no indications that the American people are rallying behind President Joe Biden or applauding his leadership.
