Cyber defence is everyone's business

AS SINGAPORE moves on its journey to becoming the world's first Smart Nation, with a cloud-based, full suite of digitally-enabled citizen-centric services, it will increasingly get in the crosshairs of cyber criminals looking to steal data.

Yet Singapore is hardly alone in being a target of cyber attacks, said David Koh, Commissioner of cyber security and chief executive of the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA). Last year, cyber security incidents garnered some of the biggest headlines, with high-profile companies such as Facebook and Cathay Pacific losing sensitive information to hackers, he noted.

"Singapore was not spared either. Some 1.5 million SingHealth patients had their non-medical personal particulars copied. It was a stark reminder that Singapore needs to push further in its cyber security efforts as a nation."
