OVER the last decade, the global shift to e-commerce has brought about new expectations for immediate gratification from consumers - with three-day delivery windows shortening to two-hour on-demand shipping. However, coupled with the rise of conscious consumerism, consumers today are doing more than just looking out for sustainable products: Half of all consumers in Asia-Pacific state that businesses have the responsibility to ensure that their supply chain does not harm the environment.
It was also found that 60 per cent of global e-commerce consumers agreed that their packaging should be sustainable, while another 50 per cent would prefer carbon-neutral parcel deliveries. These findings underline a rising trend that e-commerce players cannot ignore. With consumer demand for e-commerce at a tipping point, there is a need to build a sustainable and ethical supply chain, while delivering positive impact on the business bottom line.
