EU for Brexit in 2019 will be nothing like the EU today

THE United Kingdom goes to the polls on June 8 to elect a new government, to see it through the negotiations for Brexit and beyond. Ostensibly, the reason for the election is to give this mandate and strengthen the negotiating position with the European Union (EU).

Seven years ago, the UK had an election, which resulted in an uncomfortable coalition of Conservatives and Liberal Democrats.

As a direct result, the coalition government introduced an Act for fixed-term parliaments, so that each government would have a five-year term, whether or not it was deemed to be doing well. This Act bound the coalition together. In 2015, the Conservatives got a majority in their own right.
