SINGAPORE and India's friendship dates back hundreds of years, and is underlined by historical, commercial and cultural ties. India's economic reforms in 1990s and its "Look East" Policy have provided new opportunities for cooperation. There has also been fresh momentum with the recent India-Singapore Strategic Partnership, which provided a blueprint for cooperation in defence cooperation, trade and investment, skills development and Smart Cities.

With such a strong alliance, there should also be deep ties among the business communities across the two countries. But is this the case?

About 8,530 Indian companies operate in Singapore, with many using the Republic as a base to plug into the rest of South-east Asia.
