Future of flight in Asia-Pacific powered by technology and innovation
GLOBALLY, the aviation sector came to a screeching halt 20 months ago and has had a severe impact on industry players. We've seen consolidations, mergers, and even some calling it quits due to a myriad of factors, but primarily due to operational costs. On the other hand, we've seen how the industry has uplifted itself - from embracing technology like never before to pivoting to expand their services, with some airlines offering food delivery.
As Asia-Pacific begins shifting towards an endemic approach and economies slowly reopen, the aviation industry has a great opportunity to reimagine and reposition itself for the decades ahead and redefine the future of flight. However, when compared to 2019 levels, Asia is recovering at a slower pace compared to the United States and Europe. As travel restrictions are lifted cautiously, the region is at a crucial point of its recovery efforts.
To power the future of flight, two crucial elements need to come together - technology and innovation, and sustainability that prioritises the environment over short-sighted profit goals. Along with that, there needs to be a fundamental mindset shift that these concepts are not mutually exclusive.
