Gridlock Light expected in Washington?

The gap between the Democrats and the GOP has yawned in recent years, but a Budget deal is expected soon - one that will let both sides say they acted in their constituents' interests

    SO LET us start by highlighting the obvious: Republicans and Democrats are not going to be sitting around a campfire, toasting marshmallows and singing Kumbaya anytime soon.

    In fact, the ideological split between the two major parties is wider than ever, with the political centre losing its dominant position among both Republicans, where the anti-government Tea-Party contingency continues to exert a big influence, and Democrats, where members of the left-leaning progressive wing have been gaining clout in recent years.
