A SMALL country in Central Europe made up of about 41,000 sq km of glacier-carved Alps, lakes and valleys. The 20th smallest country in the world, with a land area of just under 730 sq km. The first describes Switzerland, the second, Singapore, and both countries are relatively small within their respective geographies.

Equally important is another similarity – both have innovative advanced economies, powered by technology-driven innovation that is advancing at an accelerating pace in many fields, including financial services.

From the perspective of digitalisation, an impressive number of inventions have come from Switzerland, notably, the launch of the World Wide Web at CERN in Geneva. Originally conceived as a platform for automated information-sharing between scientists in universities and institutes around the world, the Web has gone on to revolutionise many different fields and become an integral part of our everyday lives.
