In 2017, Changi Airport Group ran an Intelligent Video Analytics open-innovation call to companies - from small startups to multinational corporations - to demonstrate their capabilities for airport operations use-cases through the analysis of existing CCTV footage.

Of the 12 companies which took part in the challenge, Xjera Labs, a homegrown software analytics outfit started by researcher Ethan Chu in 2013, emerged as one of two companies picked to build a prototype for gate hold rooms in Changi Airport.
