Embattled agribusiness giant faces new lawsuit in US and revelations by a journalist that it sought to discredit her reporting; India probing company's abuse of power.

THE public image of the legally embattled agribusiness giant, Monsanto, is getting tarnished in the United States and in India.
Firstly, a prominent American environmental journalist has recently detailed how the company attempted to censor and discredit her reporting. Secondly, a new lawsuit was filed in Wyoming on Sept 4 against the company's allegedly cancer-causing Roundup weedkiller. Thirdly, an antitrust probe in India has found the company abused its dominant position as a supplier of genetically-modified cotton seeds, and finally, the Indian government has sharply cut its royalty payments.
A former Reuters' investigative reporter, Carey Gillam, has declared that Monsanto did not like her book, Whitewash: The Story of a Weed Killer, Cancer, and the Corruption of Science, because it revealed the company's actions to suppress and manipulate the science surrounding its herbicide business.
