Potential for further Hiroshimas remains

BARACK Obama stood tall - literally and figuratively - when he delivered an address at Japan's Hiroshima Peace Memorial last Friday before laying a wreath honouring the memory of nearly 100,000 people who perished in Hiroshima as a result of the 1945 US atomic bomb attack on the city.

It was impossible not to be moved by the moment, even witnessing it as I along with other journalists did on a TV monitor at the G-7 summit several hundred kilometres away in Ise Shima. Anyone who has visited the Peace Park museum will understand why Mr Obama appeared emotional as he spoke.
