Probe on WHO's virus response must not turn into a witch-hunt

Published Wed, May 20, 2020 · 09:50 PM

MUCH about Sars-CoV-2 remains a mystery although it has been five months since the world learned of this dreaded virus behind the Covid-19 global pandemic.

This has spawned all kinds of unsubstantiated theories and accusations, some of which are downright harmful and made with questionable motives. It is, therefore, imperative for political leaders, backed by their scientific advisers, to collaborate and share as much information as possible to build up quickly a body of knowledge about the pandemic as countries start to emerge from various lockdowns.

The World Health Assembly's two-day annual meeting, which ended on Tuesday, was a good starting point in information sharing - or it would have been, had it not turned into a continuation of the US-China feud.
