Shorting on the SGX: Have full transparency on such trades, big or small
MANY European and regional exchanges have recently banned short selling in their stock markets. SGX, however, seems to feel that bearish bets should still be allowed.
We think that shorting on the SGX should be allowed only with total transparency as this is the best safeguard for all market participants to make informed decisions.
Some of us market participants have recently reviewed the short selling rules of the SGX. We want to highlight the salient points that we feel need to be improved and altered for greater market transparency.
