S'pore leads in pursuit of green buildings
The Republic has emerged as a model for Asian governments and city planners in their bid to develop and adapt urban solutions into green building industries.
THE year 2015 is a special year for Singapore, marking the nation's 50th anniversary of independence and representing a major milestone in its history. From a country that was struggling in the 1960s, Singapore went against all odds to emerge as one of the world's most successful economies. Fifty years since independence, Singapore is now playing its part as a global citizen in balancing environmental sustainability with economic development.
The importance of our built environment
The building sector in Singapore, responsible for up to 37 per cent of the nation's electricity, is a major source of concern in our urban landscape. In July 2015, Singapore submitted our Intended Nationally Determined Contribution to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, stating its commitment to stabilise emissions and reduce the national emissions intensity by 36 per cent from its 2005 levels by 2030.
