Trump may yet make it despite all the odds

The outcome of the Republican primaries shows that life is full of surprises and conventional wisdom could prove to be wrong again in November

    SO let us say that you decided to run a marathon. You are in your 30s, healthy and in good shape. You have never run a marathon but since it is scheduled to take place six months from now, you still have time. You started training and, surprise, you won first place in a short distance run. Who knows? You may actually win the marathon?

    But a lot is working against you. First, whether you're an Olympic champ or a so-called midpack runner, your aerobic capacity falls with age, which explains why the oldest (male) marathon winners are typically in their 20s.
