Trump said he would 'drain the swamp', but...
... his stocking his Cabinet with rich insiders has the world watching his model of mercantilism
Washington
FOLLOWING the then-Republican presidential nominee's social media memes, watching Donald Trump's television commercials or listening to his rally addresses during the election campaign, one was left with the impression that the Donald was leading a populist revolution against America's political and economic elites. In the name of his "forgotten men and women" of America, the so-called "populist billionaire" was standing up to the politicians in Washington and the bankers on Wall Street and confronting the Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who represented the interests of those evil entities allegedly funding her campaign.
Pledging to "drain the swamp" of the corruption generated by the interest groups and the lobbyists who work on their behalf in Washington after he became president, Mr Trump envisioned himself as the knight in shining armour, slaying the dragon.
