Trump trying to change election narrative

His new poll strategy seems to have shifted from focusing on the devastation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic to fears of street violence under a Biden presidency.

WHEN asked in early May to predict the outcome of the 2020 presidential election, even some of US President Donald Trump's staunchest supporters sounded pessimistic about his chances of getting re-elected in November.

Forget about illegal immigrants, trade with China, or the Iran nuclear deal. These issues that dominated the populist president's policy agenda in the last four years, and could be placed under the heading "promises made; promises kept", would not determine the outcome of the race this year.

It may be true that the president blocked illegal immigration through the southern border, played it tough with China, and revoked the agreement with Teheran. But these policy achievements have all been run over by the deadly force of Covid-19 and the failed response of the current White House occupant to the global pandemic, and the ensuing economic recession.
