THE annual summit of China and the European Union (EU) held in Brussels last Friday was overshadowed by US President Donald Trump's announcement of the withdrawal of the United States from the Paris agreement on climate change.
The EU and China responded to that by reaffirming their commitment to implementing the 2015 Paris accord, which has been signed by 195 countries.
In a list of "outcomes" of the summit, the two sides "reaffirmed the importance of addressing climate change and their commitment to "step up cooperation to promote its implementation".
