US-UK trade key to making relations great again

UK Prime Minister Theresa May became the first world leader last Friday to meet face-to-face with Donald Trump since he was sworn in as US president. The two leaders discussed a potential US-UK trade treaty, and declared that they are "100 per cent behind Nato".

The meeting started a new chapter in the longstanding "special relationship", with Mr Trump already calling her "his Maggie", drawing comparisons with the political bond that was forged between Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s.

Despite the many political differences between Mrs May and Mr Trump, on the face of it significantly larger than those between Reagan and Thatcher, both leaders clearly want a constructive partnership which builds on the traditional ties founded on demographics, religion, culture, law, politics and economics.
